AL‘AQĪDAH ATTAAWIYYAH

1. INTRODUCTION

In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful, from whom we seek help. All
praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.

This is a clear presentation of the creed of Ahl alSunnah wal Jama’ah,
according to the doctrine of the jurists of the religion, Abu Hanifah alNu’man
ibn Thabit alKufi, Abu Yusuf Ya’qub ibn Ibrahim alAnsari and Abu Abdullah
Muhammad ibn alHasan alShaybani, may Allah be pleased with them all,
and what they believe regarding the fundamentals of the religion and their
faith in the Lord of the worlds.

2. TAWHEED

We say about the oneness of Allah, believing in the guidance of Allah, that
Allah is one without any partner.

There is nothing like Him.

There is nothing that can weaken Him.

There is nothing worthy of worship but Him.

He is the eternal without a beginning and enduring without end.

He will never perish, nor come to an end.

Nothing happens except what He wills.

No imagination can fully conceive of Him. No understanding can fully
comprehend Him.

He does not resemble any created being.

He is living and He never dies, always sustaining and never sleeping.

He creates without a need to create, and He provides for His creation without
any effort.

He causes death with no fear of consequences, and He resurrects without any
difficulty.

Treatise of Treasures in the Schools of Thought for the Righteous Predecessors – English

The Treatise of Treasures in the Positions of the Pious Predecessors
AshShawkaany, rahimahullah

1

The Treatise of Treasures in the Positions of the Righteous Predecessors “Attuhaf
fee madhaahib asSalaf”, by the great Islamic sheikh, the judge, the
immensely knowledgeable Muhammad ibn Ali AshShawkaany, rahimahu
Allah.

Bismillaahirrahmaaanirraheeem. In the Name of Allah, the Most Entirely
Merciful, the Especially Merciful.
All praise be to Allah, Lord (deficient
translation of the Name of Allah “Rubb”, meaning Creator, Cherisher,
Protector, Provider and Sustainer. Hereafter referred to simply as “Lord”) the
worlds, and the Mercy and blessings be upon the best of people (i.e., the
Prophet
) and his kind family, and may Allah be pleased with his great
companions. And so, a question has been received from a few people living
in Makkah, and this is how it goes:

Question Bismillaahirrahmaaanirraheeem. In the Name of Allah, the Most
Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise be to Allah, Lord the worlds. What do the
jurists of the religion and the knowledgeable scholars and the people of
Tawheed (Islamic Monotheism) say regarding the Ayat (verses of the Quran)
of the Attributes [of Allah] of what is mentioned in the Great Book (i.e. the
Quran) and of what is made clear in the Sunnah of he who guides to a straight
path (i.e. the Prophet
); Is the authentic affirmation of these verses through
their apparent meaning without takyeef (explaining the howness), or tamtheel
(likening Allah [to His creation]), or ta’weel (distorting the meaning), or ta’teel
(denying the apparent meaning), the creed of the people of tawheed, and
the [full] belief of the Quran, and the correct following of the Salaf (i.e.
righteous predecessors), or is this (i.e. this aforementioned affirmation as per
the Salaf) the creed of the Mujassimah (i.e. the Anthropomorphists)? And what
is the ruling on whoever distorts the meaning and negates what Allah and His
Prophet
has described Allah with, and supported with texts as approved by
the specific elite, that Allah SWT (i.e. Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala (free and far
from all imperfections what the deviants and disbelievers false attribute to
Him)) is in the Heavens (i.e. above them), above His Arsh (i.e. Throne), distinct
from His Creation, and His Knowledge is everywhere (i.e. encompasses
everything), and the evidence for that is the verses of istiwaa’ (i.e. being above
the Throne) and ascension and raising. And His Saying in the Quran, “Do you
feel secure that He who is above…” (Quran, 67:16), and from the Sunnah, the
hadeeth of the slave woman, the Descending [of Allah [to the nearest
Heaven]], and of Imran ibn Huayn. And the saying of the Prophet
, “Do you
not trust me, when I am the trustee of the One Who is above the heaven?…”,
and more of the life from the masstransmitted ayat and abundant ahadeeth.
And he (i.e., the one who distorts) distorts the ayat of istiwaa’ (i.e., being above
the Throne) to istilaa’ (i.e. seizing it [with power]), and that Descending is only

THE PROPAGATED SIGNPOSTS OF THE SUNNAH FOR THE CREED OF THE SAVED AND AIDED GROUP (200 Q&A) – English

Biography of the Author
His Birth and Early childhood:

Sheikh Haafidh Ibn Ahmed ‘Alee AlHakamee (rahimahullaah ta’aala) was one of
the scholars from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and one of the most famous of
those who lived in the 14th century of Hijrah to come from the southern region of
the country.

Sheikh Haafidh was born on the 24th of Ramadaan, 1342H (1924) in a coastal
village called asSalaam which lies south of the city of Jaazaan. When he was still
just a small boy he moved with his family to the village of AlJaadi’, which lies
about 6 kilometres east of the city of Saamitah because his father found that
farmland and pastures were better there. However, his immediate family
continued to commute between the two cities due to extenuating circumstances.

The young Haafidh was raised under the good and righteous guardianship of his
father who taught him modesty, purity and good character. Before reaching the
age of maturity, he worked as a shepherd herding his fathers’ sheep, which were
the most important form of wealth to his family as well as the rest of the people in
the society in those days. However, Haafidh differed from the other boys in his
village because of his intelligence and his ability to memorize and understand
quickly. He learned to write while he still a small boy and he memorized the entire
Quran by the time he was twelve years old.

Seeking Knowledge and Religious Studies:

When the young Haafidh reached the age of seven years, his father put both him
and his older brother Muhammad into Quran memorization school in AlJaadi’.
There he read the 30th and 29th parts of the Quran to the teacher and afterwards
he and his brother finished learning to read the entire Quran with the proper rules
of recitation in just a few months. Shortly thereafter, he completed memorizing the
Quran in its entirety.

Next, he concentrated on his writing skills until he perfected them and was able to
copy the Quran with excellent handwriting. At the same time, he and his brother
were busy reading and memorizing books of fiqh, inheritance law, hadeeth,
tafseer, and Tawheed under the tutelage of their father since there was no one
else suitable or trustworthy enough to teach them.

In the year 1358H (1940) the renowned reformer and great scholar, Sheikh
‘Abdullah Bin Muhammad Bin Hamd AlQar’aawee, traveled all the way from
Najd to the city of Tihaamah in the southern part of the Kingdom after he heard
about the level of ignorance and the spread of innovation in the region. Sheikh
Qar’awee’s journey to the south had been in conjunction with the consultation of
the Grand Muftee of Saudi Arabia at that time, Sheikh Muhammad Ibraheem
AalaSheikh (rahimahullaah ta’aala). Sheikh AlQar’aawee vowed to shoulder the

Laamiyyah of Ibn Taymiyyah
Attributed to Shaykh ul Islam
: Taqī alDin Abū alʿAbbās
Amad ibn ʿAbd alalīm “ibn Taymiyyah”; 661 AH 728 AH.

O one who seeks to question my creed inquisitively,

ُ
Upon such seeker, may guidance be bestowed gracefully.

To the speech of one who is authentic, listen attentively,

ُ

Not deviating from it nor distorting consistently.

Loving all companions is for me the methodology,

ُ

And I intercede through love of the Prophet’s family

For them are virtues with statuses so lofty,

Yet Asiddīq amongst them is of most nobility.

I say regarding the Qur’ān what’s therein clearly,

ُ

For it is the noble revelation, descended gloriously.
