Az-Zalzalah
The Earthquake
1 - Az-Zalzalah (The Earthquake) - 001
إِذَا زُلۡزِلَتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ زِلۡزَالَهَا
When the earth is shaken with a mighty quake,
2 - Az-Zalzalah (The Earthquake) - 002
وَأَخۡرَجَتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ أَثۡقَالَهَا
and the earth throws out its burdens[1],
[1] i.e., its dead bodies and treasures.
3 - Az-Zalzalah (The Earthquake) - 003
وَقَالَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مَا لَهَا
and man says[2], “What is the matter with it?”
[2] In terror and astonishment.
4 - Az-Zalzalah (The Earthquake) - 004
يَوۡمَئِذٖ تُحَدِّثُ أَخۡبَارَهَا
On that Day it will recount all its news,
5 - Az-Zalzalah (The Earthquake) - 005
بِأَنَّ رَبَّكَ أَوۡحَىٰ لَهَا
because your Lord has inspired it [to do so].
6 - Az-Zalzalah (The Earthquake) - 006
يَوۡمَئِذٖ يَصۡدُرُ ٱلنَّاسُ أَشۡتَاتٗا لِّيُرَوۡاْ أَعۡمَٰلَهُمۡ
On that Day all people will come forward in separate groups to be shown their deeds[3].
[3] From the place of Judgment to see the consequences of their deeds, whether to Paradise or to Hell.

7 - Az-Zalzalah (The Earthquake) - 007
فَمَن يَعۡمَلۡ مِثۡقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيۡرٗا يَرَهُۥ
So whoever does an atom’s weight[4] of good will see it,
[4] Or a small ant’s weight.
