الاعتكاف باللغة الانجليزية ـ I’tikaf
is staying in the mosque for the purpose of obeying Allah Almighty, and it is recommended for both men and women at all times of the year. Its recommendation is emphasized during Ramadan and specifically in its last ten days. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perform I’tikaf during the last ten days of Ramadan until Allah took his soul. According to the most correct opinion, there is no specific minimum duration for I’tikaf; thus, I’tikaf is valid even for a short period of time. For I’tikaf to be valid, it is required that it be in a mosque, and the person in I’tikaf must be pure from anything that necessitates ghusl, such as ritual impurity (janaba) and menstruation. A wife must seek her husband’s permission. He is not permitted to earn a living through a craft or by buying and selling without a need. It is not permissible for him to leave the masjid except for an excuse, even for a funeral. He is allowed to leave for what is indispensable, such as answering the call of nature or bringing food and the like. He is also allowed to clean himself, and to wash and comb his hair. Aisha, the Mother of the Believers (Allah be pleased with her), said: “When the Prophet ﷺ was in I’tikaf, he would lean his head towards me and I would comb it, and he would not enter the house except for human needs.” Your obedience is your planting for the Hereafter, so be keen to keep it safe from deficiency and error.
