An-Nazi'at

 

Those who drag forth

1 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 001

وَٱلنَّـٰزِعَٰتِ غَرۡقٗا
By those who pull out [evil souls][1] harshly,
[1] Of the disbelievers.

2 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 002

وَٱلنَّـٰشِطَٰتِ نَشۡطٗا
and by those who draw out [good souls][2] gently,
[2] Of the believers.

3 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 003

وَٱلسَّـٰبِحَٰتِ سَبۡحٗا
and by those who glide swiftly[3],
[3] i.e., angels glide swiftly through the heavens and earth with Allah’s command.

4 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 004

فَٱلسَّـٰبِقَٰتِ سَبۡقٗا
and those who overtake one another as in a race[4],
[4] To execute Allah's commands.

5 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 005

فَٱلۡمُدَبِّرَٰتِ أَمۡرٗا
and those who carry out the command [of Allah],

6 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 006

يَوۡمَ تَرۡجُفُ ٱلرَّاجِفَةُ
on the Day when the earth convulses [by the first Blast],

7 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 007

تَتۡبَعُهَا ٱلرَّادِفَةُ
followed by the second Blast,

8 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 008

قُلُوبٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ وَاجِفَةٌ
hearts[5] will be pounding on that Day,
[5] Of those who denied the Resurrection.

9 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 009

أَبۡصَٰرُهَا خَٰشِعَةٞ
and their eyes[6] will be downcast.
[6] Of the disbelievers.

10 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 010

يَقُولُونَ أَءِنَّا لَمَرۡدُودُونَ فِي ٱلۡحَافِرَةِ
They say, “Will we be brought back to life,

11 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 011

أَءِذَا كُنَّا عِظَٰمٗا نَّخِرَةٗ
after we have turned into decayed bones[7]?”
[7] They would say this in ridicule of the warning.

12 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 012

قَالُواْ تِلۡكَ إِذٗا كَرَّةٌ خَاسِرَةٞ
They say, “Then that would surely be a losing return[8]!”
[8] To one another.

13 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 013

فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ زَجۡرَةٞ وَٰحِدَةٞ
It will only be a single Blast,

14 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 014

فَإِذَا هُم بِٱلسَّاهِرَةِ
then they will immediately be above the ground.

15 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 015

هَلۡ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَىٰٓ
Has there come to you the story of Moses,

16 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 016

إِذۡ نَادَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ بِٱلۡوَادِ ٱلۡمُقَدَّسِ طُوًى
when his Lord called out to him at the sacred valley of Tuwa?

17 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 017

ٱذۡهَبۡ إِلَىٰ فِرۡعَوۡنَ إِنَّهُۥ طَغَىٰ
[Saying,] “Go to Pharaoh, for he has transgressed all bounds”.

18 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 018

فَقُلۡ هَل لَّكَ إِلَىٰٓ أَن تَزَكَّىٰ
And say: ‘Are you willing to be purified,

19 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 019

وَأَهۡدِيَكَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَتَخۡشَىٰ
and I will guide you to your Lord so that you may fear Him?’”

20 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 020

فَأَرَىٰهُ ٱلۡأٓيَةَ ٱلۡكُبۡرَىٰ
Then Moses showed him the greatest sign[9].
[9] i.e., the miracle of the staff turning into a snake. See 20:17-23.

21 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 021

فَكَذَّبَ وَعَصَىٰ
But Pharaoh denied it and disobeyed.

22 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 022

ثُمَّ أَدۡبَرَ يَسۡعَىٰ
Then he turned back striving to plot.

23 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 023

فَحَشَرَ فَنَادَىٰ
He gathered [his people] and proclaimed,

24 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 024

فَقَالَ أَنَا۠ رَبُّكُمُ ٱلۡأَعۡلَىٰ
saying, “I am your lord, the most high.”

25 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 025

فَأَخَذَهُ ٱللَّهُ نَكَالَ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ وَٱلۡأُولَىٰٓ
So Allah seized him for an exemplary punishment in this life and in the Hereafter[10].
[10] Or for his claim of being the greatest god and for his previous oppression of the Children of Israel.

26 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 026

إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَعِبۡرَةٗ لِّمَن يَخۡشَىٰٓ
Indeed, there is a lesson in this for those who fear Allah.

27 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 027

ءَأَنتُمۡ أَشَدُّ خَلۡقًا أَمِ ٱلسَّمَآءُۚ بَنَىٰهَا
Are you more difficult to create or the heaven that He built?

28 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 028

رَفَعَ سَمۡكَهَا فَسَوَّىٰهَا
He raised its vault high and proportioned it,

29 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 029

وَأَغۡطَشَ لَيۡلَهَا وَأَخۡرَجَ ضُحَىٰهَا
and darkened its night and brought forth its daylight.

30 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 030

وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ بَعۡدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَىٰهَآ
And thereafter He spread out the earth,

31 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 031

أَخۡرَجَ مِنۡهَا مَآءَهَا وَمَرۡعَىٰهَا
brought forth from it its water and its pasture,

32 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 032

وَٱلۡجِبَالَ أَرۡسَىٰهَا
and set the mountains firmly,

33 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 033

مَتَٰعٗا لَّكُمۡ وَلِأَنۡعَٰمِكُمۡ
as a provision for you and your grazing livestock.

34 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 034

فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلطَّآمَّةُ ٱلۡكُبۡرَىٰ
But when the Supreme Calamity comes[11],
[11] i.e., the second Blast which marks the Day of judgment.

35 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 035

يَوۡمَ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مَا سَعَىٰ
on that Day man will remember all what he did,

36 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 036

وَبُرِّزَتِ ٱلۡجَحِيمُ لِمَن يَرَىٰ
and the Blazing Fire will be exposed for all to see.

37 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 037

فَأَمَّا مَن طَغَىٰ
As for those who transgressed,

38 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 038

وَءَاثَرَ ٱلۡحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنۡيَا
and preferred the life of this world,

39 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 039

فَإِنَّ ٱلۡجَحِيمَ هِيَ ٱلۡمَأۡوَىٰ
the Blazing Fire will be their abode.

40 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 040

وَأَمَّا مَنۡ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِۦ وَنَهَى ٱلنَّفۡسَ عَنِ ٱلۡهَوَىٰ
But those who feared standing before their Lord and restrained themselves from evil desires,

41 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 041

فَإِنَّ ٱلۡجَنَّةَ هِيَ ٱلۡمَأۡوَىٰ
Paradise will surely be their abode.

42 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 042

يَسۡـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلسَّاعَةِ أَيَّانَ مُرۡسَىٰهَا
They ask you concerning the Hour, “When will it be[12]?”
[12] Lit., "established."

43 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 043

فِيمَ أَنتَ مِن ذِكۡرَىٰهَآ
How could you possibly mention that?

44 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 044

إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ مُنتَهَىٰهَآ
Its knowledge rests only with your Lord[13].
[13] i.e., its end and termination. Its ultimate knowledge belongs to Allah alone.

45 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 045

إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُنذِرُ مَن يَخۡشَىٰهَا
You are only a warner for those who fear it.

46 - An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) - 046

كَأَنَّهُمۡ يَوۡمَ يَرَوۡنَهَا لَمۡ يَلۡبَثُوٓاْ إِلَّا عَشِيَّةً أَوۡ ضُحَىٰهَا
On the Day when they see it[14], it will be as if they had remained [in this world] no more than an evening or a morning.
[14] i.e., the Hour.
