The Inevitable Hour!

مَا ٱلۡحَآقَّةُ
What is the Inevitable Hour?
3 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 003
وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلۡحَآقَّةُ
How do you know what the Inevitable Hour is?
4 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 004
كَذَّبَتۡ ثَمُودُ وَعَادُۢ بِٱلۡقَارِعَةِ
Thamūd and ‘Ād denied the Striking Calamity of the Hour[1].
[1] The Striking Calamity is one of the names of the Day of Judgment.
5 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 005
فَأَمَّا ثَمُودُ فَأُهۡلِكُواْ بِٱلطَّاغِيَةِ
As for Thamūd, they were destroyed by a dreadful blast.
6 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 006
وَأَمَّا عَادٞ فَأُهۡلِكُواْ بِرِيحٖ صَرۡصَرٍ عَاتِيَةٖ
And as for ‘Ād, they were destroyed by a furious windstorm[2]
[2] Or by a cold windstorm.
7 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 007
سَخَّرَهَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ سَبۡعَ لَيَالٖ وَثَمَٰنِيَةَ أَيَّامٍ حُسُومٗاۖ فَتَرَى ٱلۡقَوۡمَ فِيهَا صَرۡعَىٰ كَأَنَّهُمۡ أَعۡجَازُ نَخۡلٍ خَاوِيَةٖ
which He unleashed against them for seven successive nights and eight days, so you would see the people lying dead as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees.
8 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 008
فَهَلۡ تَرَىٰ لَهُم مِّنۢ بَاقِيَةٖ
Do you see any trace of them now?
9 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 009
وَجَآءَ فِرۡعَوۡنُ وَمَن قَبۡلَهُۥ وَٱلۡمُؤۡتَفِكَٰتُ بِٱلۡخَاطِئَةِ
Also, Pharaoh and those who came before him, and the overturned cities [of Lot] committed the grave sin,
10 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 010
فَعَصَوۡاْ رَسُولَ رَبِّهِمۡ فَأَخَذَهُمۡ أَخۡذَةٗ رَّابِيَةً
each disobeying the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with a severe punishment.
11 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 011
إِنَّا لَمَّا طَغَا ٱلۡمَآءُ حَمَلۡنَٰكُمۡ فِي ٱلۡجَارِيَةِ
Indeed, when the floodwater overflowed, We carried you [O humans] in the sailing Ark[3],
[3] Which was made by Noah with Allah's command.
12 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 012
لِنَجۡعَلَهَا لَكُمۡ تَذۡكِرَةٗ وَتَعِيَهَآ أُذُنٞ وَٰعِيَةٞ
so that We might make it a reminder for you, and that attentive ears may take heed.
13 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 013
فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِي ٱلصُّورِ نَفۡخَةٞ وَٰحِدَةٞ
Then when the Trumpet is blown with a single blast,
14 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 014
وَحُمِلَتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَٱلۡجِبَالُ فَدُكَّتَا دَكَّةٗ وَٰحِدَةٗ
and the earth and mountains are lifted up and crushed with a single blow,
15 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 015
فَيَوۡمَئِذٖ وَقَعَتِ ٱلۡوَاقِعَةُ
on that Day the Inevitable Event will occur.
16 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 016
وَٱنشَقَّتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَهِيَ يَوۡمَئِذٖ وَاهِيَةٞ
And the sky will split asunder and will be frail[4] on that day,
[4] i.e., weak and unstable.
17 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 017
وَٱلۡمَلَكُ عَلَىٰٓ أَرۡجَآئِهَاۚ وَيَحۡمِلُ عَرۡشَ رَبِّكَ فَوۡقَهُمۡ يَوۡمَئِذٖ ثَمَٰنِيَةٞ
with the angels on all its sides, and on that Day, eight [mighty angels] will bear the Throne of your Lord above them.
18 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 018
يَوۡمَئِذٖ تُعۡرَضُونَ لَا تَخۡفَىٰ مِنكُمۡ خَافِيَةٞ
On that day, you will be brought forth [before Allah], and none of your secrets will remain hidden.
19 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 019
فَأَمَّا مَنۡ أُوتِيَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ فَيَقُولُ هَآؤُمُ ٱقۡرَءُواْ كِتَٰبِيَهۡ
As for the one who is given his Record in his right hand, he will say, “Here is my Record, read it!
20 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 020
إِنِّي ظَنَنتُ أَنِّي مُلَٰقٍ حِسَابِيَهۡ
I was sure that I would meet my reckoning.”
21 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 021
فَهُوَ فِي عِيشَةٖ رَّاضِيَةٖ
So he will be in a pleasant life,
22 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 022
فِي جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٖ
in a lofty garden,
23 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 023
قُطُوفُهَا دَانِيَةٞ
with clustered fruit within his reach.
24 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 024
كُلُواْ وَٱشۡرَبُواْ هَنِيٓـَٔۢا بِمَآ أَسۡلَفۡتُمۡ فِي ٱلۡأَيَّامِ ٱلۡخَالِيَةِ
[They will be told,] “Eat and drink joyfully for what you did[5] in the days gone by.”
[5] Lit., "advanced" anticipating the reward in the Hereafter.
25 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 025
وَأَمَّا مَنۡ أُوتِيَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ بِشِمَالِهِۦ فَيَقُولُ يَٰلَيۡتَنِي لَمۡ أُوتَ كِتَٰبِيَهۡ
As for the one who is given his Record in his left hand, he will say, “Would that I had not been given my Record,
26 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 026
وَلَمۡ أَدۡرِ مَا حِسَابِيَهۡ
nor had I known anything of my reckoning!
27 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 027
يَٰلَيۡتَهَا كَانَتِ ٱلۡقَاضِيَةَ
Would that it [i.e., death] had been the end of me[6]!
[6] Rather than a gateway to eternal life.
28 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 028
مَآ أَغۡنَىٰ عَنِّي مَالِيَهۡۜ
My wealth has been of no avail to me.
29 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 029
هَلَكَ عَنِّي سُلۡطَٰنِيَهۡ
My authority has vanished[7].”
[7] i.e., I have no valid argument or authority today.
30 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 030
خُذُوهُ فَغُلُّوهُ
[It will be said,] “Seize him and shackle him,
31 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 031
ثُمَّ ٱلۡجَحِيمَ صَلُّوهُ
then make him burn in the Blazing Fire,
32 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 032
ثُمَّ فِي سِلۡسِلَةٖ ذَرۡعُهَا سَبۡعُونَ ذِرَاعٗا فَٱسۡلُكُوهُ
then tie him up with a chain of seventy cubits long.
33 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 033
إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لَا يُؤۡمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ
For he did not believe in Allah, the Most Great,
34 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 034
وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينِ
nor did he encourage feeding the needy.
35 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 035
فَلَيۡسَ لَهُ ٱلۡيَوۡمَ هَٰهُنَا حَمِيمٞ
So Today he will have no close friend here,
36 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 036
وَلَا طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِنۡ غِسۡلِينٖ
nor any food except the discharge of wounds,
37 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 037
لَّا يَأۡكُلُهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلۡخَٰطِـُٔونَ
none will eat it except the sinners.”
38 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 038
فَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِمَا تُبۡصِرُونَ
I swear by what you can see.
39 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 039
وَمَا لَا تُبۡصِرُونَ
and what you cannot see!
40 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 040
إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوۡلُ رَسُولٖ كَرِيمٖ
Indeed, this is the word of a noble Messenger[8],
[8] i.e., recited by Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ).
41 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 041
وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوۡلِ شَاعِرٖۚ قَلِيلٗا مَّا تُؤۡمِنُونَ
and it is not the word of a poet; little do you believe!
42 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 042
وَلَا بِقَوۡلِ كَاهِنٖۚ قَلِيلٗا مَّا تَذَكَّرُونَ
Nor is it the word of a soothsayer; little do you take heed!
43 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 043
تَنزِيلٞ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ
It is a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.
44 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 044
وَلَوۡ تَقَوَّلَ عَلَيۡنَا بَعۡضَ ٱلۡأَقَاوِيلِ
If he had falsely attributed something to Us,
45 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 045
لَأَخَذۡنَا مِنۡهُ بِٱلۡيَمِينِ
We would have surely seized him by the right hand[9],
[9] Or "by [Our] Right Hand," i.e., Allah would have surely exacted revenge with might and power.
46 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 046
ثُمَّ لَقَطَعۡنَا مِنۡهُ ٱلۡوَتِينَ
then severed his aorta[10],
[10] i.e., his life artery of the heart; causing immediate death.
47 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 047
فَمَا مِنكُم مِّنۡ أَحَدٍ عَنۡهُ حَٰجِزِينَ
and none of you could have rescued him.
48 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 048
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَتَذۡكِرَةٞ لِّلۡمُتَّقِينَ
This [Qur’an] is indeed a reminder for those who are righteous.
49 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 049
وَإِنَّا لَنَعۡلَمُ أَنَّ مِنكُم مُّكَذِّبِينَ
And We surely know that some of you will be deniers,
50 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 050
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَحَسۡرَةٌ عَلَى ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ
and it[11] will certainly be a source of regret for the disbelievers.
[11] i.e., denying this Qur’an.
51 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 051
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَحَقُّ ٱلۡيَقِينِ
And this[12] is indeed the absolute truth.
[12] i.e., this Qur’an.
52 - Al-Haqqah (The Reality) - 052
