Hadeeth text
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The heart of an elderly person remains young in two things: in the love of this world and long hopes."
Explanation
Benefits
Referring to the dispraise of long hopes and the eagerness to accumulate wealth. This implies the need to prepare for death, the merit of giving charity by the wealthy, and maintaining self-restraint by the poor.
The most beloved thing to a human being is his self, as he desires its preservation. Thus, he loves longevity and wealth, because wealth is one of the greatest means of sustaining health and pleasure. The more he feels he will lose this, the stronger his love and desire for its continuity become.
